~Teachers~

A phrase that I heard today stuck out in my head..and I tried to rid my brain of it, but some things stick around for awhile...and, this is one of them!

The phrase had to do with teaching and teachers specifically teaching advanced students. The person that irritated me with the phrase stated that teachers of advanced students should know the content of the course very well because they teach advanced students...hmmm...had to ponder that one...came up with these questions...

In general, are teachers of advanced students better teachers than those of general ed teachers (if effective instructional strategies and time on task were actually measured, that is)?

In general, do teachers of advanced students have to plan more than general ed teachers?

In general, are teachers that teach advanced students usually those that have been on the campus the longest?

In general, if teachers of advanced students were swapped with teachers of regular students, could those teachers of advanced students handle the discipline? and differentiation? and inclusion? and large number of students? and tutorials? and TAKS pressure? and, and, and...this could be like a BAD episode of Wife Swap...FRICKIN' HILARIOUS!

Anyway, I don't have the answers to these questions...maybe the generalization of AP teachers specifically irritated me because I have not ever taught AP. pre-AP, or advanced students of any kind...and I think I know the content fairly well...

Oh well, this too shall pass...:)
