Happy Earth Day! Today is the perfect day to celebrate our Earth and to learn ways to help save the planet.
I came across several interesting articles today about recycling and conserving energy so that our resources last longer...making Earth a great planet for many, many years to come.
Tips that I find helpful:
- Use reusable containers to store lunch items...instead of plastic bags. (And, please do not reuse the plastic bags!!!!!!)
- Take your own bag to the store OR at least request paper...plastic bags are horrible!
- Turn out lights when you are not in a room...use lamps versus flourescent lights...buy GREEN (no, not the color green) bulbs...more expensive, but last longer!
- Turn the water OFF when brushing your teeth...and, always fix a leaky faucet!
- Quit buying cheap batteries that just get thrown away...buy reusable, rechargeable ones.
I LOVE Starbuck's cups...and, for the most part because they are paper they are earth friendly. But, even Starbucks is doing their part by offering a discount to those customers that reuse a cup...so...take your own mug to Starbucks and save a tree!!!!!!!
Also, noticed at Jersey Girl pizza this weekend that they use compost friendly cups...the cups are made from corn...gotta love it!!!
So, take a moment today and plan out one way you can help save this planet...
Interesting statistic:
The US produces half of the world's garbage, but has only 6% of the world's people! In the US, each person generates about 4.3 pounds of trash a day. For a family of four, that's 6278 pounds, or more than THREE TONS of trash each year!
